Many operating systems, even firewalls and routers, cannot effectively defend against this kind of attack, and it is very difficult to trace it because it can easily forge the source address. Its packet characteristics are usually that the source sends a large number of SYN packets and lacks the last handshake ACK reply of the three handshakes.
